In 1971 Salford the Pakistani owner of a fish and chip shop, and father of seven by his British wife, vainly tries to bring up his children according to tradition, including arranging marriages for them.
A culture clash comedy with a difference, in that the clashes come from the peculiar racial mix and generational gap within a single family. Its moments of hilarious (and often low) comedy come interspersed with deadly serious drama all but worthy of Bandit Queen. On the whole more successful than the similarly eye-opening Bhaji on the Beach.
