Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Cast: Maribel Verdú, Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna

Mexican high school chums look forward to a summer spent cheating on their girlfriends while off travelling Europe, but get more than they bargained for when a disconsolate married woman takes them up on their offer of showing her the best beach around. Meanwhile a voiceover informs us of the fates of the people and places they meet on their journey.

The Review

The political commentary anchors this otherwise familiar slice of American Pie; that and the effusive treatment (handheld camera at times, a very unAmerican gusto and absence of coyness in the sexual content). It is uproariously funny at times, poignant at others, perplexing in its unusual genre mix and ultimately rewarding for that.
