13 Rue Madeleine (1946)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 95m
Director: Henry Hathaway
Cast: James Cagney, Annabella, Richard Conte, Karl Malden, E. G. Marshall, Sam Jaffe

Synopsis:

A US spymaster during WW2 discovers one of his recruits is a Nazi infiltrator, but his decision not to move in on him straight away has unfortunate consequences.

Review:

Routine spy adventure which without its star would be pretty dull. As it is, Conte is a predictable baddie, Annabella is wasted, and the world weary commentary continues far too long into the film. Cagney dies for his country at the end, which is somehow less satisfying than Cagney dying for himself.
