1883 (2021-22)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.00:1 500m approx
Director: Taylor Sheridan
Cast: Tim McGraw, Sam Elliott, Isabel May, Faith Hill

Synopsis:

A family joins with a wagon train of immigrants hitting the Oregon trail from Fort Worth, confronting bandits, Indians and the weather on their way.

Review:

A Yellowstone Origin Story', trumpet the posters, and it becomes quickly clear that the James Dutton here is a direct line away from Costner's uncompromising John Dutton, Elsa is Beth, etc. Sheridan, who even snaffles a bit part, has perhaps spread himself too thinly here in more ways than one, but he knows he is on to a good thing. Elsa's time-marking monologues can grow trite in the long run, and it seems an eternity before we have even left Texas. However, in the new realist Western vein (lots of mumbling and injury detail) the series gives a creditable view of the hardships endured by those brave or foolhardy enough to make the trail. Elliott is terrific as the guide.
