Anna Karenina (1948)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 139m
Director: Julien Duvivier
Cast: Vivien Leigh, Ralph Richardson, Kieron Moore

Synopsis:

A diplomat's wife encounters and falls in love with a young officer.

Review:

Duvivier's version for Alexander Korda is strong on visual style, and the costumes are magnificent, but the two-thirds French screenwriting team produces some stilted dialogue, and the male leads need all the help they can get at sounding natural. Leigh is strong on tragic aura, and yet... no Garbo.
