Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 118m
Director: Peyton Reed
Cast: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne

Synopsis:

Pym and Hope are still sore at Scott for using their technology to help Captain America in Civil War, but forgive him when he helps them rescue Pym's long lost wife from the quantum realm.

Review:

More a light-hearted caper movie than the conventional 'society in peril' Marvel scenario, this second outing for Ant-Man reveals it more than ever as a kind of Spiderman for grown-ups, with Peña and his fellow ethnic American cronies providing dubious comic relief. It's essentially a low-stakes battle with an uncommonly dweeby FBI antagonist conducted while trying to evade an equally inept tech dealer. At the same time, a former victim of one of Pym's technologies seeks to appropriate his shrinkable laboratory (a neat visual gag) at the very moment they hope to rendez-vous with Mrs Pym. All of which affords some touching scenes in amongst the jokes and micro/macro pursuits. Note: look out for the post-credit, which strikes an altogether more ominous note.
