Aparajito (1956)

£0.00

(The Unvanquished)

Country: IND
Technical: bw 113m
Director: Satyajit Ray
Cast: Pinaki Sengupta, Karuna Bannerjee, Smaran Ghosal

Synopsis:

Apu is successful in school and earns a scholarship to study in Calcutta, leaving his widowed mother in his great-uncle's village.

Review:

Ray's compassionate humanist's eye moves to the period of adolescence of his signature character, Apu. Human relationships are immortalized within a neo-realist aesthetic as before. Characters reveal little of their feelings in words, but gestural detail, a facial expression in close-up or a shot through an open doorway speak volumes.
