Bedazzled (2000)

£0.00

Country: US/GER
Technical: DeLuxe/scope 93m
Director: Harold Ramis
Cast: Brendan Fraser, Elizabeth Hurley, Frances O'Connor, Orlando Jones

Synopsis:

A geeky office worker with a crush sells his soul to the Devil in exchange for seven wishes, but none of them quite works out as he imagined.

Review:

The highlight of this remake, which is just slightly better than the original, is Liz Hurley's knowing performance as the Devil in a staggering sequence of costume changes. But Fraser does some amusing turns as the fazed hero, the best being the first (a Colombian cocaine baron speaking with the aid of subtitles). Unfortunately some of the sketches are nowhere near this standard, and the film doesn't quite convince in selling sex for eighty minutes - while never delivering - and then copping out in favour of honesty and selfless love. The results are rather like watching Austin Powers not getting laid once and then turning humanitarian aid worker in the closing five minutes.
