Technical: col/2.39:1 102m
Director: Zoë Kravitz
Cast: Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Alia Shawkat, Christian Slater, Adria Arjona, Geena Davis, Kyle MacLachlan
Synopsis:
Two waitress friends get invited onto the island of a rich tech entrepreneur and are treated like honoured guests. But amid all the fine dining and designer drugs there is one which causes them to forget the abominations performed on them each night.
Review:
Gimmicky, colourful 'gilded cage' thriller, surely based at least in part on the Jeffrey Epstein phenomenon. Apparently seven years in development, it pivots on a truism about forgiving and forgetting, and takes time to check gluttony, envy and sloth along the way. While intriguing enough and working up to a macabre finale, it does not perhaps deliver full moral value for all its box of tricks, and leaves one or two questions unanswered. It does, however, strike a blow for feminism in engineering their own deliverance.
