Bluebeard's Eighth Wife (1938)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 85m
Director: Ernst Lubitsch
Cast: Claudette Colbert, Gary Cooper, David Niven

Synopsis:

A US millionaire marries for the eighth time, but his French bride has ideas of her own about keeping him and his fortune in the family.

Review:

Enchanting comedy that had been filmed before with Gloria Swanson but here gets the Lubitsch touch, or does it? Who else but Wilder and Brackett could build a story on a mere pair of pyjamas*? And they had the stars to fill them then. *The lovers first meet in a department store where he is thriftily trying to buy the tops only, and she comes to the rescue, saying she only sleeps in the bottoms!
