Buffalo Bill and the Indians or Sitting Bull's History Lesson (1976)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 118m
Director: Robert Altman
Cast: Paul Newman, Burt Lancaster, Joel Grey, Kevin McCarthy, Harvey Keitel

Synopsis:

William ('Buffalo Bill') Cody employs Indian chief Sitting Bull to liven up his Wild West show, thus exploiting the vanquished Native American and purveying a distorted view of history into the bargain.

Review:

Whatever Altman's laudable revisionist politics, they do not make for compelling dramatic entertainment. As ever he has assembled a stunning cast, and the cinematography is as good as McCabe's, but this is a regrettable misfire (and the last thing to make money in 1976).
