La Belle et la Bête (1946)

£0.00

Country: FR
Technical: bw 96m
Director: Jean Cocteau
Cast: Jean Marais, Josette Day

Synopsis:

Belle takes her father's place to atone for her sin of selfishness in asking him to bring her back a rose, and the Beast spares her life.

Review:

Cocteau's version of the popular de Beaumont tale is more or less straight for him, but has many touches characteristic of their creator, such as the hand shaped candelabra growing from the walls. Only the final transformation of the prince now seems impossibly naïve and risible in its handling.
