Synopsis:
An art student in Le Mans leaves her married lover and declares her intention of making a good marriage. Seizing on her best friend's cousin as the first eligible bachelor she meets, she finds the reality far more complex than she thought.
Review:
The second of the director's Comédies et Proverbes is based on La Fontaine's 'building of castles in Spain', and Romand is incomparable as the candid, passionate, demanding, above all deluded and impetuous 25 year-old who chooses marriage first and the guy after. As usual, the film is peppered with telephone calls, train journeys and cars executing manoeuvres in cramped city streets; meanwhile an impromptu lunch à deux goes ungraced by food. Of course it is the dialogue that matters, and Dombasle, in skin-tight black leather, and Dussollier offer well-meaning and agreeable foils for Romand's incisive intransigence.
