The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009)

£0.00

(Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans)

Country: US
Technical: col 122m
Director: Werner Herzog
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Xzibit, Val Kilmer, Brad Dourif

Synopsis:

Lieutenant Terence McDonagh investigates a gangland shooting in between (or while) being high on medication (and non-medication) drugs for a back injury sustained in the line of duty. Meanwhile he looks after his hooker girlfriend, his on-the-wagon retired police officer father, and his gambling habit, routinely abusing his position of power and ultimately working with the hoods that wasted the family in the first place.

Review:

Herzog's 'mainstream' sort-of spin-off to Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant brings just the right amount of quirkiness to a standard corrupt cop setup, without weirding you out with too many reptile-eye views of human depravity. Cage shuffles more lop-sidedly than ever through proceedings, extorting sexual favours and information with a wave of his .44 magnum without so much as getting, or inflicting, a scratch, and inadvertently becoming the city's most decorated officer.
