Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 136m
Director: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Cast: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders

Synopsis:

Steve Rogers finds it difficult adjusting to 'modern' life and obeying orders from S.H.I.E.L.D. he does not necessarily agree with. But when Nick Fury is the victim of a hit, it is up to Black Widow and him to frustrate the agency's plans for its brand new Star Wars-style weaponry, using Steve's former best buddy as nemesis.

Review:

This Three Days of the Condor-style intrigue riffs on a number of familiar political thriller tropes, while attaining a new high watermark in earthbound effects work. There are some nail-bitingly tense street battles, and a climactic showdown aboard three giant airborne aircraft carriers. All the while, American virtues of bravery, self-sacrifice, comradeship and the defence of freedom are well to the fore. This time Redford gets to be the bad guy, and he still has all the old moves.
