Conclave (2024)

£0.00

Country: GB/US
Technical: col/2.39:1 120m
Director: Edward Berger
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini, Lucian Msamati, Sergio Castellitto, Carlos Diehz

Synopsis:

The Pope dies unexpectedly and the world's pontiffs assemble in Rome, overseen by the Dean of the Vatican, so that a new Pope might be elected without interference or malfeasance.

Review:

It is hard to imagine such a subject being done better, and it has certainly been done less well. The initially arcane details of the selection process soon become reassuring anchors amid the uncertain seas of division and intrigue. Art direction and sound design are top notch and together with performances go towards creating a compelling allegory of how power is best transferred.
