Contraband (1940)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 92m
Director: Michael Powell
Cast: Conrad Veidt, Valerie Hobson, Hay Petrie

Synopsis:

A Danish cargo ship's captain in the early days of WW2 is caught up in cloak and dagger involving a female passenger during a night of London blackout.

Review:

A comedy thriller to beat Hitchcock at his own game: sparkling playing from the leads, Hobson all cool on the outside but with fire underneath, and excellent support from Hay Petrie. Almost as good as The Thirty-Nine Steps, and less po-faced than Hitch's own wartime efforts.
