Country: GB
Technical: bw 90m
Director: Anthony Asquith
Cast: Leslie Banks, Alastair Sim, John Mills, Michael Wilding, Jeanne De Casalis, George Cole, Carla Lehmann, Catherine Lacey
Synopsis:
A veritable nest of spies converges on a cottage outside Glasgow, where the lady of the manor has to contend with evacuee children, an injured fighter pilot and organising a charity bazaar. Meanwhile, her eccentric inventor husband is designing a new bomb sight in his laboratory at the back of the house.
Review:
Wartime escapism, turning Nazi espionage and 'walls heave ears' propaganda into light comedy entertainment. A splendid cast is led from the front by Jeanne De Casalis, as the flustered, spoonerism spouting Mrs Barrington, and George Cole as a precocious Cockney kid with a penchant for Sherlock Holmes stories. Great fun, but impeccably stagebound.
