Crime et châtiment (1935)

£0.00

(Crime and Punishment)

Country: FR
Technical: bw 110m
Director: Pierre Chenal
Cast: Pierre Blanchar, Harry Baur, Madeleine Ozeray

Synopsis:

Raskolnikov murders a pawnbroker, thinking only of the relative good he can do with the money. However, the deed done, he is conflicted by guilt and deprived of action.

Review:

Reasonably faithful adaptation of Dostoevsky, with expressionistic sets which however, as in most attempts, cannot render the internal monologue of the protagonist and thus the philosophical import of the novel.
