Criss Cross (1949)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 84m
Director: Robert Siodmak
Cast: Burt Lancaster, Yvonne De Carlo, Dan Duryea, Stephen McNally, Percy Helton

Synopsis:

A drifter returns to his home town and picks up with his estranged wife, who has since attached herself to a smalltime hoodlum. Heedless of the warnings of his police lieutenant childhood friend, he confronts his rival with a scheme to use his job as security guard to rob an armoured car payroll delivery.

Review:

Magnificently shot Universal noir from the director of The Killers (1946). True, it is hard to credit the antihero's failure to spot his ex's motivation is greed rather than love, much less that he would get into bed with Duryea's outfit, but the fall guy/femme fatale pattern was well established by now, and the performances, right down to Helton's barman, offer plenty of compensation. A grade-A production with surefooted framing and lighting.
