The Calendar (1948)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 79m
Director: Arthur Crabtree
Cast: Greta Gynt, John McCallum, Sonia Holm, Raymond Lovell, Leslie Dwyer

Synopsis:

Square-jawed but naïve horse fancier, Capt. Garry Anson, is jilted by his gold digger fiancée when he loses one bet too many. Desperation almost leads him to resort to nefarious means of paying his debts, but his ex still holds all the cards.

Review:

Routine, fitfully comedic, racing drama peopled with character types: the decent officer sort gone to the bad, the redeeming (brunette) horse trainer and her dull noble brother, the cockney safecracking butler, etc. All perfectly watchable, though it helps if you know your racing jargon. The title, which goes unexplained, presumably refers to the racing calendar.
