The Chambermaid Lynn (2014)

£0.00

(Das Zimmermädschen Lynn)

Country: GER
Technical: col/2.35:1 90m
Director: Ingo Haeb
Cast: Vicky Krieps, Lena Lauzemis, Steffen Münster

Synopsis:

An OCD out-patient from mental hospital takes a job as chamber maid and derives satisfaction from making everything clean. She takes to lying under the beds and eavesdropping on the private lives of the guests, thus making the acquaintance of Chiara, a dominatrix sex worker. She grows attached to her, asks her to go on holiday together, and when she doesn't turn up goes to see her own mother instead.

Review:

Full of unexplained incident and behaviour, simply because everything is seen from Lynn's perspective (e.g. she talks to her analyst but there is no reverse shot, only a voice), Haeb's character study is a frustrating watch. Krieps is an agreeable companion, certainly, who inhabits her role totally, but the repetitions and non-sequiturs make this kinky curio a peculiarly Germanic exercise in modernist emptiness and alienation.
