The Christophers (2025)

£0.00

Country: GB/US
Technical: col 100m
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Cast: Michaela Coel, Ian McKellen, Jessica Gunning, James Corden

Synopsis:

A world famous artist keeps an unfinished series of paintings in his loft, named after his former beloved. His son and daughter employ the services of a young artist-cum-critic to forge them to completion so that they can be sold when he dies. But he is a wily old dog.

Review:

Exploring concepts such as ownership, authorship and integrity within the art world, Soderbergh keeps a light touch, helped by Corden, Gunning and a mercurial McKellen. Coel, meanwhile, provides a sentimental core of prickly vulnerability and undeserved empathy. The central dynamic is that of Sex, Lies and Videotape: two very different beings somehow connect in the midst of deception and tawdry immorality.
