Delicacy (2011)

£0.00

(La délicatesse)

Country: FR
Technical: col 108m
Director: David Foenkinos, Stéphane Foenkinos
Cast: Audrey Tautou, François Damiens, Bruno Todeschini

Synopsis:

A bereaved young professional woman with a weakness for sensitive men shuts herself off from her feelings for three years before tentatively paying court to a non-descript Swedish co-worker, much to the consternation of her friends and colleagues.

Review:

The kind of blandly precious film about love in which the French are fond of casting the star, this oozes adoration of her loveliness through every character and every shot and uses coy techniques such as the 'coming into focus' shot and internal monologue to underwhelming effect. Luckily it has the excellent Damiens in a meatier role than hitherto, but it takes considerable time to say very little beyond the obvious 'love comes from the most unlikely quarters' message, not to mention hingeing everything on an unconvincing spontaneous kiss of which the giver later has no recollection.
