Desire under the Elms (1958)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw/Vistavision 111m
Director: Delbert Mann
Cast: Sophia Loren, Burl Ives, Anthony Perkins

Synopsis:

An avaricious New England farmer brings home his new young wife, raising questions of inheritance. Two of his sons relinquish their share, but one remains to get what is coming to him, while the wife does nothing to allay tensions in the household.

Review:

Miscast, stagey melodrama, like Racine's Phèdre re-worked by Tennessee Williams. Good music from Elmer Bernstein, but it is impossible to believe Loren's character would go for either of them.
