Le dernier métro (1980)

£0.00

(The Last Metro)

Country: FR
Technical: col 131m
Director: François Truffaut
Cast: Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu, Heinz Bennent, Jean Poiret, Andréa Ferréol

Synopsis:

Actors in occupied Paris continue to perform their play while sheltering her husband, a Jew, in the basement beneath the theatre, and trying not to fall in love.

Review:

Truffaut's antepenultimate film was something of a comeback for him after a few years without a hit. It reunited him with a historical subject, and Deneuve, and gave Depardieu his first 'theatrical' role. It is a classic scenario of three human beings in extraordinary times, and is moderately well realized, if a little self-conscious.
