The Diary of a Chambermaid (1964)

£0.00

(Le journal d'une femme de chambre)

Country: FR/IT
Technical: bw/scope 98m
Director: Luis Buñuel
Cast: Jeanne Moreau, Georges Géret, Michel Piccoli

Synopsis:

A woman works as a maid for a landowner with a foot fetish and becomes aware of the responsibility of his gamekeeper for the murder of a local girl, but does nothing to expose him.

Review:

Quirkiness or plain old wickedness replaces the comedy and menace of the original, with the shot of the snails on the dead girl's leg and the closing 'Vive Chiappe!' jump-cut at the close (he was the Minister of the Interior who banned the director's early films in France). Much to entertain fans.
