The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972)

£0.00

(Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie)

Country: FR/SP/IT
Technical: col 105m
Director: Luis Buñuel
Cast: Fernando Rey, Delphine Seyrig, Stéphane Audran, Bulle Ogier, Jean-Pierre Cassel

Synopsis:

A group of friends, diplomats and their wives, fail repeatedly to have a meal together.

Review:

The director's last masterpiece is a superb précis of his career, combining scandal, affectionately drawn idiosyncrasies and sudden shifts into dreamt action. The cast play with just the right poise and relish and the whole is as seamlessly constructed as a fantasy. Leitmotifs from earlier films include the rifle fired unexpectedly, the coupling in unfavourable circumstances, and the grand piano as a site of torture.
