The Devil and the Flesh (1951)

£0.00

(Susana)

Country: MEX
Technical: bw 86m
Director: Luis Buñuel
Cast: Rosita Quintana, Fernando Soler, Víctor Manuel Mendoza, Luis López Somoza, Matilde Palou

Synopsis:

A jezebel escapes the reformatory and takes advantage of the compassion of a landowning family. Before long, however, she has caught the eye of the foreman, the son and the father!

Review:

Buñuel's 'Duel in the Farmyard' boasts a gutsy, off-the-shoulder performance from Quintana but is really little more than a morality tale about the fragility of marriage and relationships of trust in the face of unbridled passion. The authorities come to take her away and order is restored, but the director's camera reveals where his interests really lie. Veteran actress Palou's contribution, as Doña Carmen, is sufficiently substantial to help balance out the audience's sympathies, however.
