Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

£0.00

Country: US/AUS
Technical: col/2.35:1 113m
Director: Doug Liman
Cast: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Brendan Gleeson, Bill Paxton

Synopsis:

With the Earth under siege from tentacular aliens known as 'Mimics', an officer wakes up a deserter busted down to private and finds himself condemned to relive the same morning's catastrophic offensive again and again, as he inherits the foe's ability to reset time.

Review:

Like an extended episode of The Twilight Zone, or more specifically Doctor Who and the Carnival of Monsters, this breathless science-fiction actioner is in danger of outstaying its welcome, before endgame is assured by an eleventh hour upping of the stakes. The star again shows that at fifty he can still cut it as an action man, but he is given a run for his money by the pumped-up and athletic Miss Blunt. The film's flaws lie in its comic book conception: how can a relationship between the characters build when she has to start from scratch each time? What effect would experiencing death an all but infinite number of times have on the human mind? And what exactly does transpire at the end? But still, as summer movies go it has more than its share of ingenuity, humour and excitement.
