Effi o Blaenau (2026)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col 90m
Director: Marc Evans
Cast: Leisa Gwenllian, Tom Rhys Harries, Owen Alun, Nel Rhys Lewis

Synopsis:

Effi, 20, lives with her mate on the edge of a refuse tip in Blaenau Ffestiniog, getting drunk at weekends and stringing along her slacker boyfriend. Then she meets a demobbed amputee and her life changes for ever.

Review:

While asking cogent questions about the state of our public services and what gives life a sense of purpose when you live in Blaenau, the film annoyingly draws a veil over where our girl friends find the rent, much less the vodka, when they don't appear to work. Still, it's a gutsy performance from Gwenllian, and the location is well caught, with some super drone shots, not least during a birth in a stricken ambulance at night during a snowstorm.
