Femme (2023)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col/2.39:1 99m
Director: Sam H. Freeman, Ng Choon Ping
Cast: George MacKay, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Aaron Heffernan

Synopsis:

Having fallen victim to a closet homosexual, a drag artist goes on to pursue and 'out' him in a dangerous game of revenge. Or is it love?

Review:

Some of the frisson of Friedkin's Cruising (1980), certainly some of the sleaze, accompanies this perplexingly titled gay-bashing thriller. No less than two 'closed societies' within British society at large are presented to us: the criminal underclass and the sophisticated gay, artistic, subculture; to which might even be added a third, that of the covert, predatory male cruiser. The film is breathtakingly honest about what takes place in these locales, and about the male addiction to danger and 'getting off'; social media also play their part. A product of its time, then, and reasonably gripping at that, though not one to watch with your gran.
