Gawain and the Green Knight (1973)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col/scope 93m
Director: Stephen Weeks
Cast: Murray Head, Nigel Green, Ciaran Madden

Synopsis:

The Green Knight comes to Arthur's court and challenges a knight to strike off his head with an axe, if he will undergo a return blow the next year.

Review:

Weeks' film alters the chivalric tale slightly, but otherwise has a fair stab at finding a modern equivalent for the tone of what is a medieval form. He is helped in this by Green, who injects the necessary gravitas, and by a good production design, but it was well out of step with the times, which were all but ready for Monty Python's Black Knight.
