Country: GB
Technical: col/2.35:1 103m
Director: Daniel Barber
Cast: Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, David Bradley, Iain Glen, Liam Cunningham, Jack O'Connell, Sean Harris
Synopsis:
A widowed former marine living near a council estate is disgusted by the behaviour of the young thugs holding sway there. When his friend also dies, he turns vigilante.
Review:
Coming out around the same time as Gran Torino, and harking back to the theme of Get Carter, this was unfairly neglected for a time. It was to be Caine's last starring role, until The Great Escaper fourteen years later! He delivers one of his more reined in, but also rather affecting, performances, and Barber does not hold back on the local colour, language or violence. It is in fact a kind of septuagenarian Taxi Driver without the taxi.
