I'll Be Seeing You (1944)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 85m
Director: William Dieterle
Cast: Ginger Rogers, Joseph Cotten, Shirley Temple, Spring Byington

Synopsis:

A soldier and a single woman on Christmas leave share a train compartment and get off at the same stop because he has nowhere particular to go. They are both, however, hiding something about their current situation.

Review:

Whatever you might think about Ginger Rogers as a jailbird, this is one of the few pictures of its age to address date rape and for that, as for its hopeful romance for damaged souls, it is of continued interest. The handling of shell shock might seem arch and awkward at this remove, but the film is adult in the way it addresses its characters' hopes and fragilities, only try to duck out during the heavenly choir bookends. The film was a Selznick production and sees Rogers towards the end of her career in leading roles while Cotten, though older, was at the height of his.
