(La ilusión viaja en tranvía)
![]()
Country: MEX
Technical: bw 82m
Director: Luis Buñuel
Cast: Lilia Prado, Carlos Navarro, Fernando Soto
Synopsis:
Two loyal employees of the tram company devotedly tend to their No.133 rolling stock, only to me told by management that it has outlived its usefulness and is to be scrapped. Uncertain of their future, they drunkenly decide to take it for one last overnight spin around the City.
Review:
Like his earlier film, Subida al cielo, this one throws assorted characters together and watches as glimpses of Mexican society come and go. The hero's fiancée becomes involved in his irresponsible behaviour, and a former employee threatens to spill the beans to the Company, as night turns to day and they seem unable to get back to the depot without becoming further embroiled in the life of the city. Again, it is excessively talkative but the master whisks the action along with assurance.
