Imitation of Life (1959)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 124m
Director: Douglas Sirk
Cast: Lana Turner, Juanita Moore, John Gavin, Sandra Dee

Synopsis:

An aspiring actress befriends a black widow and they parent their children together, the friend's mixed race daughter proving the greater handful through her desire to pass as white; meanwhile the actress neglects her own.

Review:

The Sirk melodrama - and the title - that proved the most apposite (Turner's daughter had famously stabbed her lover the year before). Even so, it does rather pile on the issues with a shovel - great if you're in the mood. The novel was first filmed in 1934.
