Jane Austen Wrecked My Life (2024)
(Jane Austen a gâché ma vie)
Country: FR
Technical: col/2.35:1 98m
Director: Laura Piani
Cast: Camille Rutherford, Pablo Pauly, Charlie Anson
Synopsis:
An anglophile/anglophone bookseller struggles to form romantic relationships after the deaths of her parents, and is at an impasse with her latest novel. When her workmate gets her place on a Jane Austen residency across the Channel, her insecurities go with her.
Review:
Rohmerian tale of a sensitive, articulate woman deciding between two men, but with gallic attempts at humour, some of which come off. You want to shake the protagonist hard, as do most of the characters, but you still care what becomes of her, and the atmosphere of the residency is affectionately caught.
