John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)

£0.00

Country: US/GER
Technical: col/2.39:1 169m
Director: Chad Stahelski
Cast: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Clancy Brown, Bill Skarsgård, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson

Synopsis:

Wick continues his vengeful trajectory up to the High Table itself, which in turn attempts to use his oldest friends as pawns against him.

Review:

The concluding chapter in the franchise is interminable both in its entirety and in its set piece fight sequences, which more than ever resemble a video game (one sequence shot room to room from above, and the steps level leading up to the Butte de Montmartre, consciously evoke the gaming aesthetic). Wick is more bullet proof than ever, and seems to have bones made of rubber, but leaving aside the implausibilities (where are the law enforcement communities? one might ask), the participants take things seriously enough to save it from self-parody. A chase sequence set on and around the Etoile in Paris sets a new standard in computer-assisted choreography, no doubt rapidly to be superseded by others, and the cinematography is ravishing.
