Juggernaut (1974)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col/scope 110m
Director: Richard Lester
Cast: Richard Harris, David Hemmings, Omar Sharif, Shirley Knight, Anthony Hopkins, Ian Holm, Roy Kinnear, Freddie Jones

Synopsis:

An explosives expert is helicoptered in to defuse a series of bombs aboard a transatlantic cruise liner.

Review:

Simply and humorously written thriller, a sort of Britannic addition to the US disaster genre in vogue at the time, but with only the minimum of digression to examine the passengers and crew, enough for engagement, and everything geared towards telling the story economically and suspensefully; the flabby backstories and hysterics which characterise American efforts like The Poseidon Adventure are absent here. Lester, replacing Bryan Forbes, directs with a keen eye for inflections in performance and the wry throwaway, neither is it without stylish shots and deftly handled situations. And it is brimming with outstanding British actors. 'Fallon is the champion!'
