It would be hard to imagine a more self-effacing documentarian; it is Novak's voice that is paramount here, and that is as it should be. Meanwhile Philippe sprinkles about film clips revealing the actress's underrated ability to emote for the camera, as well as library and home movie footage. Novak also talks us through her art and how it helped her to keep her sanity over the years. Taken together it is a beguilingly beautiful and intensely moving exposure of a highly sentient personality.
