Love with the Proper Stranger (1963)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 100m
Director: Robert Mulligan
Cast: Steve McQueen, Natalie Wood, Tom Bosley

Synopsis:

After a one-night stand with a musician, a Macy's salesgirl finds herself pregnant. Things do not look promising when he cannot recall sleeping with her, but he does not shirk responsibility and together they raise the money for an abortion. Meanwhile, is it possible that they might fall in love?

Review:

This naïve premise in a self-consciously adult movie (for its time) might, in another's hands, have made for an impossibly coy romantic comedy, or worse. However, Mulligan invests it with sensitivity and compassion, to which his stars respond with affecting performances.
