The Lady Eve (1941)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 94m
Director: Preston Sturges
Cast: Barbara Stanwyck, Henry Fonda, Charles Coburn, William Demarest, Eugene Pallette

Synopsis:

A trio of cardsharps on board ship targets the heir to a fortune in breweries, but then one of them falls for him.

Review:

Sturges was by now getting in his stride with a run of classic comedies, rarely without some sort of satirical bite. This is one of the best, eschewing the stridency that can tar his more populist stories in favour of a creamy smooth sophistication, although the intervention of slapstick does jar.
