The Last Command (1955)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 110m
Director: Frank Lloyd
Cast: Ernest Borgnine, Sterling Hayden, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Arthur Hunnicutt, Richard Carlson (as Travis)

Synopsis:

1836: Jim Bowie marshals opposition to his old friend Santa Ana at the Alamo, a symbol of Texan resistance to Mexican rule.

Review:

Overshadowed by John Wayne's handsome super-production five years later, this humbler Republic western follows roughly the same trajectory, with more attention given to the politics of caution favoured by Bowie, due to his relation by marriage to the Generalisimo. Davy Crockett (Hunnicutt) is cast as a lighter figure, but the production achieves some impact nevertheless.
