Madame de... (1953)

£0.00

Country: FR/IT
Technical: bw 102m
Director: Max Ophuls
Cast: Charles Boyer, Danielle Darrieux, Vittorio de Sica

Synopsis:

In the late eighteen hundreds a General's wife pawns the earrings her husband gave her after their wedding, and they pass through a number of hands before returning to her as a gift from her diplomat lover.

Review:

A familiar conceit from this director, granted, but the delicacy with which the marital relationship at the film's heart is adumbrated belies all expectations; and the trademark tracking shots around carefully constructed sets are elegant, to be sure.
