Man of Steel (2013)

£0.00

Country: US/CAN/GB
Technical: col/2.35:1. 143m
Director: Zack Snyder
Cast: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne

Synopsis:

The last hope for the dying planet Krypton is sent across space to Earth and becomes endowed with phenomenal powers as a result. But the renegade General Zod is determined to retrieve the codex of unborn Kryptonites from the superman's DNA, and make Earth his exclusive domain.

Review:

Astounding comic strip cinema from the director of 300 and Watchmen; an effects bonanza, but one which keeps the morality and humanity of its key characters sufficiently under the spotlight to qualify as a worthwhile exercise, while enriching its mythology with references to Moses and a generally messianic tone. One has to pause and admire the sturm und drang with which Snyder enfolds the cartoon action, and the cast performs with humour and charm. Still just a Superman movie, though (dodging back in time to before the action of Superman Returns, and effectively reprising Superman and Superman II in one film.)
