Mayerling (1968)

£0.00

Country: FR/GB
Technical: col/scope 141m
Director: Terence Young
Cast: Omar Sharif, Catherine Deneuve, James Mason, Ava Gardner

Synopsis:

The Crown Prince of the Habsburg Empire rejects the traditional monarchic views of his father Franz-Joseph and makes no attempt to disguise his passionate love affair with a Baroness, his mistress. Wanting to make her his wife, he is increasingly at odds with the Emperor and his secret police.

Review:

Lush remake of the French classic, all soft focus and Khachaturian's Adagio. Always a bowdlerised view of history, it seems quaintly out of step with the late sixties.
