Synopsis:
As the Entity infests the world's missile defence systems one by one, Ethan and his team must make their way to the sunken Sevastopol and use the key acquired in Dead Reckoning to retrieve a transponder that, with the help of a poison programme created by Luther, will neutralise the virus.
Review:
Put another way, it's one hell of a McGuffin since the fate of the world depends on it, but the non-computer literate had better pay attention! As usual, in this excessively long concluding chapter, we have a couple of elaborately cross-cut sequences in which already impossible challenges are rendered doubly intractable by the unforeseen, and the producers may just have surpassed themselves in credibility with the Bering Sea diving sequence. In addition, despite considerable depths of good will on the part of the audience, loose ends are left hanging and escapes unexplained, and the final sequence is fudged in more than one respect. Lawrence of Arabia comes in for a quote homage (and why not?) and there is a door left wide open for a possible sequel, so that this highest-possible-stakes diptych risks being succeeded, if not trumped, by still another instalment to come.
