Morningside (2025)

£0.00

Country: CAN
Technical: col/2.35:1 91m
Director: Ron Dias
Cast: Kiki Hammill, Alex Mallari Jr., Olunike Adeliyi, Kiana Madeira

Synopsis:

An ethnic community centre in Scarborough, Ontario, is the focus of three intersecting stories: a young man applying to be a police officer, a fourteen year-old girl with aspirations to be a singer, and a pair of hoodlums feuding over a girl.

Review:

Well-intentioned but oh, so earnest racial drama along lines we have seen too often before (cf. Crash, 2004). Everything is impeccably done, from cinematography to acting, but the cast is so universally good-looking, and everything so clean, that it hardly convinces as a disadvantaged neighbourhood. Also, does it not snow in Ontario at Christmas?
