My Favorite Wife (1940)

£0.00

(My Favourite Wife)

Country: US
Technical: bw 88m
Director: Garson Kanin
Cast: Cary Grant, Irene Dunne, Randolph Scott, Gail Patrick

Synopsis:

A woman believed dead returns home on the day her husband has just remarried. He then spends most of the film avoiding breaking the news to his bride, or anyone else, even though he really wants her back.

Review:

A daft confection from Leo McCarey at RKO: the premise is absurd, and the contrivances by which the lovers are kept at arm's length from each other increasingly trying. However, Grant and Dunne's chemistry together is just seductive enough to keep it ticking over. His double take in the elevator and Scott's performance on the rings over the pool are moments to treasure.
